The pivot to early evening/late afternoon performing now includes RIAM Opera, reclaiming its traditional mid-January slot in the Dublin performance calendar. Last seen in 2020 with Cavalli’s ‘La Calisto’, the annual student co-production between the RIAM (music/production) and IADT-Dun Laoghaire (set/costume design) returns in 2022 with ‘King Arthur’, an opera in English with music by Henry Purcell and words by John Dryden. A wild story of love and community in a hostile environment, with added magic, mayhem, and deception, it was popular on the 18th-century Dublin stage – and could be a timely choice for audiences now.

Directed by Aoife Spillane-Hinks and conducted by David Adams, ‘King Arthur’ opens with a preview performance on 16 January at 6pm, and the run continues on 18, 19, 21 & 22 January, at the Samuel Beckett Theatre in Trinity College Dublin. For more details, see https://bit.ly/3q9F0sF
