“We play instrumental music. It is not ambient. You’ll like it.”: Simple words with which the members of Cork based instrumental dance rock band VoxPossible describe themselves. It is an accurate description; when someone utters the words “instrumental dance act” it would be natural to immediately think of an ambient, trendy group but on listening to the double A-side Eyes for the Boys/Big Boy Beastie it is clear to see that they do not fit that description.

Eyes for the boys is a barging dance number unavoidably reminiscent of  The Prodigy in their more daring days, to be retrospective, however possibly the best current comparison for this particular track is fellow independent dance scene group, Japanese Popstars, with more than a dash of rock thrown into the mix. VoxPossible adopt the same pace and energy in many of their tracks. From the outset the right potency is portrayed by the tempered rhythm and the gradually growing guitar sounds. It is not uncommon to find wordless dance tracks to be tedious, however attention never sways throughout this track; inevitably repetitive nature of any dance number is present, but it builds up to a fantastic moment in the middle; the kind of pre-climax that comes from the great dance acts that leaves dance floor revelers euphoric.

Big Boy Beastie channels the rock elements with a distorted guitar intro, the likes for which the modern rock stars have become known. It is a pleasure to listen to; steering clear of pure techno mixing desks and computerised music; the guitar aspect is plentiful and overall, it is a nice take on the dance genre.

The double A-side will leave you wanting more tracks by VoxPossible, preferably on a foggy, sweaty dance floor.  This is not an entirely impossible desire to satisfy, as they are launching the single at Cork venue Nancy Spains on the 14th of April.
