The Ambience Affair are a Dublin based band that any Irish music lover would know, and if not, shame on you. They have been making waves in the Irish scene and for good reason. An Ambience Affair gig pulls at the senses and makes you emerge yourself within the music on a track-to-track basis. There is little wonder why ‘Burials’ has been eagerly anticipated by a lot of critics and music fans alike. The good news is that they do not disappoint.
After two well received EP releases, the band needed to make the step up to a collection and body of songs that rival all others in the record shops. The result is a complex and melancholic offering that does require multiple listens to really get a feel for the album. Instant comparisons to Arcade Fire, Thom Yorke and Mumford & Sons can be made. Not a bad bunch to be likened to on your first full album release.
Burials stands out from the crowd, the fact that this is their first release is fantastic. Unlike most first releases from Irish Bands, that really do sound like a bunch of EP tracks stuck together. This album ebbs and flows naturally from start to finish with many songs effortlessly merging together.
‘The Fallen’ and ‘Tides’ stand as highlights on this truly fantastic first offering from The Ambience Affair. I look forward to catching them numerous times around Dublin in 2012. Burials is most certainly entering in my top 3 Irish releases of 2011.
