Review by: Aidan Cuffe

Last night I had the pleasure of dropping into one of my favourite venues, The Olympia, to see a new show running till Sunday entitled Get Back – The Story of the Beatles.

I’m going to keep this review short and sweet, by describing certain aspects of the night I don’t want to ruin the set list as such for anyone so I wasn’t taking notes for set list.

What you get in this night is what I would call I mix of a documentary with a band. The format is very much presenting the band as if they are the Beatles at varying points in the career, marching their way through the 1960s and the albums involved.

Every few songs video would start up with clips from the 1960s and bits that had been made up where the band had replaced the Beatles in some moment or interview or event. If you’re going in expecting a play, scenes where an act is played out on stage like arguments in a studio or something like that, you have the wrong idea of what this show is about.

It’s very much a highly polished, beautifully presented tribute band show, where I have to say the band are absolutely flawless, they have made every effort to look, dress, talk and really feel like the Beatles down to little mannerisms. The music could as well be from a CD it’s performed so well and the band does a good job of making jokes to the crowd without over-doing it.

The music and backdrops were awesome, the video content was pretty good and at times pretty funny, my major dislike on the night were the seating, everybody wanted to dance, but the seating was restrictive space wise and if people stood up and others didn’t (it was a largely older crowd) then you were just dancing in the way of others.

To sum this show up, if you want one of the best tribute’s to The Beatles you’re likely to see then Get Back will be right up your street. If you’re not a fan of the Beatles, this show will truly show you from start to finish how many hits the Beatles churned out during the 1960s. Either way I think there is something here for everyone.

It’s open till Sunday and tickets are still available for most of the shows at a cost of €30 and are still available on Ticketmaster.
