Shades have released an EP “Only On Sundays” back in August.

Upon my initial listen, its hard and inaccurate to call these guys completely original. “Thank you”, the first track on the EP amplifies the ever-menacing generic heavy distortion lying comfortably in the mix with that steady 4/4 beat that every drummer first learns. The chord changes are the only thing that keeps me
from switching to the next song.

“She” is next on the list, definitely an improvement from the first hurdle. The space given by the guitar creates great ambiance to the sound. The chorus is quite pleasing to the ear, smooth guitar tones contributing to my point. The vocals in this song are much more alive and positive. The extra percussion creates ease and its an enjoyable number if you’re an oasis or Bon Jovi fan.

“City of Angels”, starts with a minor acoustic guitar accompanied by a steady drum beat and an ambient chorus guitar making cries in the distance. “Turn the page”, another generic 90’s tune. If you’re into oasis, this is right up your alley, unfortunately for me, I’ve heard millions of songs just like this one, sorry guys. “MTV” up next, I’m expecting something fascist about how MTV has ruined music. Instead I get an ACDC backing track with clever lyrics. Good or bad? I cant decide. “Pouring Rain” finishes off the “Only on Sundays” EP, an acoustic soft rock track.

Overall, If you enjoy bands like Oasis with a handful of chords, a few harmonies, this is right up your alley! Some nice vocal lines but the music is quite dated.
Guitar work is too predictable although that’s just from years of playing guitar myself. Not my cup of tea to be honest, but then again, everyone’s different.
