Eoghan Reid is a relatively new producer from Cork who is sure to make a big impact on the developing Irish electronic music scene. Having released his debut EP Genesis a few months ago he has already received some attention.

Comparisons can certainly be made between Reid and fellow Irish producers Moths, Toby Kaar and Solar Bears, stateside the likes of Clams Casino may come to mind. Although there are similarities present, Reid manages to still bring his own flavour to the five songs on Genesis.

The first track Forrest starts with glistening electronics which then transform into a dark ominous pulsating beat which then explodes but never becomes overpowering. It’s relaxed but yet hectic at the same time. The song continues to develop and captivate the listener which each addition to the plethora of sounds.

Diptera is another highlight on Genesis. Its menacing melodies and distorted bass tones are beautifully contrasted with arpeggiated piano chords. An enthralling listens from start to finish.

After seeing him live recently at the Alliance charity gig in Whelans I was more than impressed, the songs sound fantastic in a live setting with Eoghan adding in subtle yet noticeable changes which certainly compliment the tracks. If you want atmospheric yet exciting Irish electronica, look no further than REID.
