When I first saw the name” Murder Plan”, I thought, Okay, this band is going to be some generic piece of filth from the conveyor belt of emo. When I saw “ Drinking with the Devil” I thought, Okay, it’s a generic emo/ hardrock band based with five long bearded freaks that drink druids and Toast to the devil.

Oh boy, was I wrong??
Murder Plan’s EP starts with a pizzicato chords on the piano, resembles that band that sang “Worried About Ray”, The Hoosiers. The band have a very addictive sound. Beautiful and unique melodies from a unique voice.

“Trouble” dips into reggae with thin light percussive guitar work with the 2nd half of the verse being the most desirable aspect of the song, much like an epic Bon Jovi pre-chorus. “Soul Dance” intro’s with some beautiful piano before picking up that toe tapping reggae strum. Unfortunately the track just levels out and doesn’t really hit the heights it could have after it’s short lived promising intro. “Drinking with the Devil”, definitely the most energetic track on the EP. Slide guitar am I right? Takes a very blues twist. Great chorus but we’ve all heard a chorus just like it. Same chords, same melody.

Overall, Murder Plan were a big surprise. Is it good or bad? Well for me the music isn’t bad, but it’s not really highly original. We all know how repetitive reggae arrangements can be. Initially they had me hooked in but I just lose interest towards the end of the EP.
