During the winter months it is not uncommon for any one person to want to simply close the curtains, break out the comfort food stuffs, and chill-the-f-out. Belfast Indie-electronica band, Morning Claws have incidentally created the perfect companion for such occasions, their début EP ‘Pet storms, Ancient Clouds’.
The EP is perfect winter listening as it does not bore or depress the pants of you, nor does it make trying to bring sunlight in to your dark evenings when all you want to do is cosy up and listen to something interesting. That is exactly what Morning Claws produce with this offering; interesting, non-commercial soft-electronica. I am convinced Morning Claws are one of the few Irish bands that are headed for a considerable amount of success among indie music fans. Based on this EP they do not seem to be attempting to usurp any other already established act’s image or sound, which is a rarity and something to be commended.
The highlight of the EP is the second track ‘Fizzle’; over four minutes of easy to listen to, easy to sing along to indie goodness. Another intriguing track is ‘Goodbye Moodkill’ which has an endearing child-like element to the music, contrasted with “grown-up” lyrics. Admittedly, the band have a long way to go before they become star quality, but this high-standard EP is a great starting point for the pending success for this extremely gifted outfit. Well worth a listen, and easily enjoyable.
