The Rouce EP is the debut release from Donegal / Derry young upstarts, Mojo GoGo, and if the name don’t grab you, the tunes will. Despite a murky, typically young start on opening track, ‘This Isn’t Love’, there’s enough here to let you know that Mojo GoGo have a knack for quirky, ska driven indie. ‘Prison Shoes’ follows, as does an unexpected ‘leap and bound’ growth in the bands writing quality. Style and tone drastically change for the better, with a trudging, raw guitar backed by a thumping bass and darkly toned vocal line. Drums are the cleanest in the mix making it a perfect wee package.

‘Change’ is another cracking piece of music. The band emerge from the densely toned down style of ‘Prison Shoes’ with a cleaner, finely polished pop rock number that’ll pull you in quicker than a hurricane. If you’re one for those hair standing choruses then you’ll love this one. The Rouce EP ends triumphantly with the brilliant ‘Straighten Me Out’. Simple, clean and again packed with fantastic, thick melodies and hooks.

Did we ever say ‘young upstarts’?, for shame! Mojo GoGo have delivered the goods first time out. Worth every moment you can spare them and hopefully the first of many releases we’ll get from the band.
