The Rock and The Tide is the latest offering from American singer-songwriter Joshua Radin. Radin, best known for lending his tunes to over seventy five American TV shows; most notably Scrubs due to friend and fan Zach Braff’s recommendation of his first ever EP.
On this record, album number three, Joshua hasn’t removed himself completely from his montage friendly genre but has managed to shift the association slightly by upping the tempo on tracks like on I Missed You and putting “the rock” in The Rock and The Tide.
Still heavily influenced by Elliott Smith on tracks like Think I’ll Go Inside. He manages to showcase a lighter side on title track The Rock and The Tide. Hitting number five on the iTunes charts in October, stints at various festivals over the summer and continued plugging from basically every American TV show should make sure that this is certainly not the last we hear from Joshua.
While I enjoyed the album, Radin seems to be one of those artists that you constantly compare to other singer songwriters, whilst I would love to hear/see him break away from what can sometimes seem predictable, I can’t help think if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it!
