I was sent 3 songs to listen to and pop up an opinion of  last week, to my shame, World Cup duty and other commitments have meant i have had nominal time to listen to any music the last while. However i tried to rectify that somewhat today by committing to giving these three tracks a listen.

First up is  Jester with a track called See Saw,

This track got me toe tapping and nodding my head, which for me is a subconscious note that i like the tune. It’s a tight indie track, upbeat and powerful with a chorus i can easily see crowd taking to and singing back to the band. It’s a good Rock track that became catchier the more i listened.

Second was Relief with a track called Marie,

This song takes things down a beat from the previous track, a more melodic track around harmonic vocals asking a girl Marie to wait for him. The intro to the song in particular leads me to believe they have a sound that maybe not too dissimilar to The Atari’s, which in my humble opinion is a good thing, as long as they keep their own take on that sound. It’s a decent song, but it wasn’t my favourite of the three. It is however good enough for me to want to hear more of their stuff.

Finally we had The Riptide Movement with a track called Hard to Explain,

This is a fun little track, with upbeat, picking and strumming on guitar over a gentle drum beat careful to not drown out the carefully constructed musicianship. I think this track could be described as a blend between Seasick Steve and Mundy. It grew on me after a couple of listens and has got me interested in the band.

Overall

It’s hard to write about single songs, i find that one song doesn’t make a band (unless your looking to be a one hit wonder) if these tracks are anything they are good quality tunes, all 3 have me wanting to check out more from the bands. Is this their one good song or is there an album coming through filled with mini gems for me to explore. I guess only time will tell but until then i definitely would reccomend giving all 3 a listen.

Hard to Explain is streaming on The Riptide Movements Myspace

Marie isn’t yet up on Relief’s Myspace but 3 other songs are there to give you an idea of them.

See Saw is streaming on Jester’s Myspace

Would love to hear anyone’s comments and thoughts on these bands. I would myself probably based on these 3 tracks be tempted to go see these bands in order of The Riptide Movement / Jester / Relief.
