Hailing from Cavan, C O’Neill & Co (fronted by Ciarán O’Neill) is a project combining the lead singer and his friends together in the hopes of creating some good music. Gaining support slots from Whipping Boy and The Minutes is nothing to baulk at either, so I eagerly gave this one a listen hoping their début release would justify these great support slots.

‘Take Me Over Machine’ is an accordion-laden Irish country/folk track which unfortunately ultimately disappoints. It never gets beyond the stage of sounding like a B-side from Spider Stacy-era Pogues, and not a memorable one. O’Neill does have a strong voice which aids the track, but the song itself sounds quite dated when compared to modern Irish music.

The video for the track as can be seen here is highly entertaining to watch, but the video is not going to save the song no matter how enjoyable, beyond that it is not a song that will leave you wanting more. Possibly a missed opportunity in promoting their upcoming album, However this is by no means an awful track, it is just not overly memorable, I still hold out hope that I will be pleasantly surprised when the album is released in early 2012.

The song can be downloaded for free from their Facebook page.
