Avalanche Ammo, Anthony Boland, makes his way to the stage sporting a sunburst Fender Stratocaster and the famous mask that separates us from him, leaving us pondering the question, ” Can this musical genius be of this world?” AA carries a multi-track unit to which plays recordings accompany him with his weapon of choice as he twists, bends and fidgets around the stage channelling raw energy. Overall, the material produced is unarguably creative. Big future for AA once this man acquires a session band to back him, watch this space!

Next up on the bill is Former Monarchs from Cork. First impressions are important and they did not disappoint. Strange phrasing and time signatures boggle the mind, but in a good way of course. Cracking jokes between songs ease the tension to the fact tumbleweeds could of made the dance floor more interesting. These guys deserve a dance floor full of loyal richter collective fans and not the smell of stale beer mixed with a handful of enthusiastic music fans.

Daves Last Rave hit the stage next mixing punk with 80’s cheesy rock. Not really my cup a tea but they brought the biggest crowd of the night. Their rendition of “Shipping Off to Boston” led me to the dance floor as I have just returned from Boston on a J1. Overall, a fun experience, for a person who has had enough of Punk and cheesy
Metal.

Alright The Captain, assemble their pedal boards in the centre of the dance floor, removing this 20ft canyon between the stage and the first sign of human life. People gathered around the band as the night became more intimate as incense candles were lit. As a Avid fan of Math Rock (and badgers), I found, I had a lot in common with this band. They played time signatures that would scratch the heads of BATTLES. Overall, a pleasant experience from a Math Rock band that don’t follow a song structure. At times, the music seemed to be just totally random even to a fan of the genre but I suppose you can’t win all the time right?

Good night in the Late Lounge, hopefully the next time there will be some sort of promotion.
