Cuban-Irish singer-songwriter Qbanaa is set to release her most heartfelt single to date ‘Demons In The Liffey’ on October 18th. Written during her time in London, the song captures the emotional turbulence of moving away and how lonely it can be navigating the challenges of establishing yourself in a new place; in Qbanaa’s case the vibrant South East London jazz jam scene.
The track finds Qbanaa caught between searching for independence and recognition and a nurturing relationship with her mother. Directed by Qbanaa and shot by Babygirl Films, the accompanying video ramps up the emotion of the song by using footage of Qbanaa as a young child, interacting with her mother in more innocent days.
“I wrote ‘Demons in the Liffey’ during a period of intense reflection after a complicated breakup and a strained relationship with my mother,” says Q. “It’s about confronting the pain of my past, but also about the hope and promise of healing. I hope this song speaks to anyone who has ever felt torn between love and pain, and inspires them to find their own path to reconciliation’.
‘Demons In The Liffey’ is taken from Qbanaa’s upcoming six track EP Elisa which was recorded in Cuba and completed in Dublin. Pre-save the track here
