Microsoft tag app give FREE single downloads

It’s not an Irish musician but Canadian native Nick Backovic is trying something alternative with the release of FREE promotional singles from his upcoming albums using Microsoft tag app.

The special stickers were put up throughout Dublin City Centre on June 20th and it allows people to scan these stickers using the Microsoft Tag App and directly download tracks immediately. The first single ‘Rant’ is available now. Fans can then rescan the stickers at another point to get the new singles at each release before the album is finally released in March 2013. Nice to see musicians trying something different.

Backovic said,
I wanted to make the singles not only free, but as accessible as possible to the public by literally taking the music to the streets. The fact that the sticker is shaped like a vinyl record but using modern technology…the rules of the music industry are constantly being reinvented and ideas are needed to push this thing whole forward. I guess I’m just bringing a few of my own ideas to the table but my main reason for doing any of this, being heard.

The gig will be on Sunday July 1st at The Stags Head and admission on the night is €10 and doors are at 8pm. A great chance to see Lawson in a small intimate location.

A Dark Horse

The second song from their forthcoming debut EP, A Dark Horse have a video for their track The Butterflies Are Here. It’s shot in stopmotion and the band says it’s based on the idea of how we change out lives in the unknown, as our past and futures meet to do battle. It’s where our past and futures meet that our hopes, fears and dreams are made. Pretty deep stuff.

Coastal

Belfast based musician Paul Fox is going under the pseudo-name of Coastal and is set to release his new EP ‘Crumble Blue’ on June 25th. It’s an EP that is dark and strained and could name any list of indie acts as influences.

We kindly have the EP streaming below for you to make your own conclusions.
