Japanese rock legends Boris are coming to play their first Irish appearance in almost 10 years.

They will be over on Monday 10th December 2012 to play Whelans. Tickets for the show are €16 inclusive of booking fee and are on sale now. Tickets are available from Tickets.ie.

We Were Giants

Dublin pop rock outfit We Were Giants have announced their last show of the year. It’s a midnight show Upstairs in Whelan’s on Thursday November 29th.

Support on the night comes from folk duo Holy Ghost | Holy Grail. If you’ve caught their ‘Part One’ EP you’ll know we quite enjoyed it. So check that out too. Admission before 10.30pm or with guestlist is FREE otherwise it is a €10 club entry fee. First band 11.30pm.

They are due to spend December and January knuckling down and working on the follow up to ‘Part One’.

Slow Skies

Karen Sheridan’s musical project Slow Skies will be playing Dublin this weekend as part of the Stags Head Raw.

It’s the usual story. Sunday night in the Stags Head will see Slow Skies taking to the stage. Doors are 8pm and admission on the night is €8.

Si Schroeder

Three shows in three weeks for lo-fi songsmith  Si Schroeder. He will take a Sunday residence upstairs in Whelans, starting this Sunday 11th November. A different act will join him on each night. Sunken Foal will join the 11th, Chequerboard join him on the 18th November and the last date on 25th November is yet to be confirmed.

Gavin James

A busy year in 2012 for Gavin James has seen him playing a series of live showcases including selling out The Grand Social and supporting Ryan Sheridan, Ingrid Michaelson and Novelle Vague. He hit festival season with Indiependence and Electric Picnic.

Now just four days ago, Gavin released his first EP, the ‘Say Hello EP’ on November 2nd and he has an album in the pipes due on the release valve for March 2013. He will support Ingrid Michaelson again on her tour of the UK and Ireland too when she comes back this month.

In The Willows

Alt-folk act from Waterford In The Willows are out on a mini Irish tour. They have just completed two or three shows to finish October and play on Thursday night this week as part of Jamrocks in Navan.

The week after they will be up in Dublin to launch their new EP ‘Long Time Listener’ and will play in the Ruby Sessino on November 13th and then launch the EP on November 14th in The Grand Social.

BOUTS + Amateur Historians + Tremoya

Our good friends BOUTS and the classy indie-rockers Amateur Historians are back in Dublin in just under two weeks.

They will be playing a show in Whelans’ on Saturday 17th November 2012 where BOUTS will be showcasing material from their new album. Monaghan are sending up local band Tremoya for the night so three bands to catch and lots of new material.

It’s €7 on the door and they open at 8pm.

The Joinery

Two cracking gigs coming up towards the end of the month / start of next month down in The Joinery.

First up is a gig on November 30th with A lazarous Soul, European Sensoria Band and Prang Ruin / Walter Demonik all playing on the night. The crucial details for this gig are that it’s 8pm doors and €8 entry and BYOB.

The second gig down in The Joinery is on December 7th 2012 with Katie Kim, Chequerboard and Ickis Mirolo all playing on the same night. Doors are 8pm. Admission is €10 and it’s BYOB again.

Sauncy Sundays in The Grand Social is now two years old. Woosh that went fast. To celebrate the occasion, they have booked in a huge list of great acts to party away the night. Best of all, the gig is FREE.

A Tale Of Two Cities

Music Generation Cork City has announced a special performance of the acclaimed ‘Ballymun Lullaby’ as its first gala concert at Cork City Hall. The show will see 200 children in a combined choir of RTÉ Cór na nÓg, Ballymun Music Project, the all-island choir winners Ballyphehane Secondary School Choir and Maria Assumpta National School Girls’ Choir. The show was written by Daragh O’Toole and will be conducted by the principle conductor of the RTE Concert Orchestra, David Brophy.

First up is Cork City Hall on Saturday 17th November at 3.30pm, with tickets costing €10. The second of the two shows will be up in Dublin when they play the National Concert Hall on Monday 26th November at 8pm. Tickets are €15 available from the National Concert Hall.

103.2 Dublin City FM turn 20 years old

A massive fair play and congratulations are due to Dublin City FM 103.2 and their CEO Mick Hanley who are now broadcasting just shy of twenty years.

Their first program was aired on November 27th 1992 as Anna Livia FM and since then has gone from strength to strength. At times Dublin City FM feels like the radio version of ourselves, operating on a minimum budget with amazing volunteers.

Dublin City fm hosts a 20 year celebration at The Mercantile Venue, Dame Street on Friday 30th November with special guest appearances from some of Ireland’s best and most loved musical acts.

Hidden Agenda

Two hidden Agenda shows coming up rather soon to remind you about.

First up in the Button Factory this coming Saturday 10th November is Claude VonStroke who haven’t been over in a long time. He will be bringing his live DJ show to Dublin with doors at 11pm and admission €15.

Secondly we have Detroit funk specialist Jimmy Edgar just over a week later also playing in The Button Factory. The show in on Saturday 17th November with doors open at 11pm. Tickets for this once are €10 and are available from Ticketmaster.ie and outlets nationwide.

Rachel Austin

Belfast based singer songwriter Rachel Austin released her new EP -completing her Age Of.. Trilogy – with the third and final installment ‘Age Of Reason’. The EP was out on November 1st 2012 and she is heading out on tour to promote the show.
