It’s the dream of every Liverpool fan to play for the club, to don the shirt and thread the grass, score the goals that lead your team to victory.

For many that’s a dream that goes unfulfilled but for Monster Monster songwriter Mick Stuart, he found an alternative way to feel a part of match-day. The band wrote a Christmas song entitled ‘Christmas In Liverpool’ and sent it in to stadium announcer George Sephton in hope that he might like the song enough to play it over the tannoy.

George wrote back to say “It’s a beautiful piece of music. I will be playing it again at each game before Christmas and then AGAIN before Christmas in 2015 and for as many Christmases as I have left at Anfield”.

‘Christmas In Liverpool’ was played at Anfield on Saturday last when Liverpool beat Stoke City 1-0. The song is set to get more plays over the busy Christmas period at the legendary football venue. The band was inspired to write the song after “a cold rainy night in Dublin” says Mick.
Reflecting on being vulnerable and exposed in a city. The line, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ came to mind, giving hope in a difficult situation. Once we had that, all the things we love about Liverpool came to mind, its kindness, its music, its football.
