British-Japanese electro pioneer Miso Extra has has shared details surrounding her debut full length project ‘Earcandy’ set for release on 16th May via Transgressive. The album was written and recorded during summer 2024 with Grammy-winning engineer Ricky Damian (Ezra Collective, Jorja Smith and Sampha) at Damon Albarn’s Studio 13 in West London.

To celebrate the news of the new album Miso Extra has shared synth-house-inspired pop track ‘Certified’ further setting the tone for the album following the release of ‘Good Kisses’ featuring Metronomy. “Certified centres around the attempt to be seductive and the stubborn determination that comes with it,” she explains of the new track.

Following working with Miso Extra, Metronomy’s Joseph Mount declare her as being “the future” Earcandy also features collaborations and contributions from A.K. Paul, MICHELLE, and Tyson.

Miso Extra describes Earcandy as being “about growing through your mistakes and not being afraid to get things wrong. There are some deep messages in there but it’s surrounded by sweet earcandy – that spoonful of sugar that helps the medicine go down.”

Speaking about working with Ricky Damian, she expands “he was my Mr Miyagi, I learned so much from him during the whole process. Plus working in Studio 13 was so inspiring since I’m such a Gorillaz fan and you can channel their energy there, as well as feel the influence of other people who have used the space from Erykah Badu to Paul McCartney.”

Miso Extra appeared at the inaugural Borderline festival in Dublin in early 2024 before returning to Ireland to open for Rejjie Snow in 3Olympia Theatre in November. No doubt she’ll be back in Ireland under her own steam very soon.
