Following the successful sold-out show in Whelan’s this weekend to celebrate what would have been the 50th birthday of Mic Christopher an additional show celebrating his life and artistic vision will now take place at the National Concert Hall, Dublin, in November.
Mic is best known for his posthumous multi-platinum hit album ‘Skylarkin’ and it’s massive lead single and opening track Heyday. He also recorded two hugely acclaimed albums ‘Bored Of Their Laughing’ and ‘Sham’ with his band The Mary Janes. Mic Christopher sadly passed away in 2001, at just 32 years of age.
Saturday’s sold-out Whelan’s gig featuring Lisa Hannigan and The Charlatan’s Tim Burgess was the first of four special happenings, hosted by Born Optimistic, celebrating the life and music of Mic. The event at the National Concert Hall will feature a Chamber Orchestra conducted by Kenneth Rice, plus an array of very special guests to be announced.
All of the proceeds from the concert will be going to fund Aidlink’s work in the Turkana region of Northern Kenya, which has been ravaged by Climate Change. The average life expectancy there is just 47 years of age. Aidlink funds local community groups who carry out vital work to improve the lives of the Turkana.
An Orchestral Evening of Mic Christopher’s Songs at The National Concert Hall, Wednesday 6th November 2019. Tickets on sale from NCH.ie from 10am, Thursday 26th September.
