Meteor Choice Music Prize Live at Vicar Street | Gig of the Week

Gig of the Week has to go to the Meteor Choice Music Prize Live Event on Thursday in Vicar Street. The past year was a phenomenal year for Irish music. The gig will see 9 of the 10 acts nominated for Irish Album of the Year perform. Those acts are Wallis Bird, The Cast of Cheers, Adrian Crowley, Delorentos, Damien Dempsey, Julie Feeney, Heathers, Mumblin Deaf Ro and Windings. Previous winners Two Door Cinema Club are also nominated but on tour in Germany. The lucky act will receive €10,000, which is a nice little prize. The Irish Song of the Year will also be awarded on the night. Tickets are €22.50 and still available. It’s one of our favorite nights of the year, so if you can, make sure to pop along.

After three sold out nights in The o2 in Dublin last week, on Monday The Script begin the first of another three sell outs up in The Odyssey Arena in Belfast. Monday also sees Slash in The Olympia Theatre for his second sold out gig there. Word on the street is Charlie Sheen was bopping about there last night.

The gorgeous Lianne La Havas is in The Olympia Theatre on Tuesday for her rescheduled gig there. Tickets are still available and are €21. Bangor native, Foy Vance, is touring around Ireland this week, stopping by Mandela Hall in Antrim on Tuesday, Portrush Complex in Portrush on Wednesday, The Sugar Club in Dublin on Thursday and Cyprus Avenue in Cork on Friday. Tickets for all gigs are still available and range from €13 – €16.

Those One Direction rascals are up and down Ireland like a yoyo over the next two weeks. They’re bringing their Take Me Home tour to The O2 in Dublin on Tuesday and Wednesday before heading up to Belfast for three nights in The Odyssey Arena on Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Presumably Niall requested Saturday off to bring the lads for a session in Mullingar. They’ll finish the Irish leg of their tour the following Tuesday and Wednesday back in Dublin’s O2. Unsurprisingly, every single ticket has been snapped up, so if you didn’t get a ticket, you’ll have to start saving your pennies for the obligatory tour DVD.

Canadian DJ Cyril Hahn is at The Button Factory on Wednesday. It’s sold out and kicks off at 11pm. The lovely Little Green Cars have also sold out The Button Factory on Friday night. Around the corner in The Olympia Theatre are welcoming Bloody Beetroots. Tickets for that one are still available and are €25.40. Meanwhile Lil Wayne is down in The O2 on Friday. Tickets are still available and start from €45.
