Meteor Choice Music PrizeThe Meteor Choice Music Prize has today announced that there will be a second award given out this year alongside the best album in Ireland award. This will be the inaugural Irish song of the year pitting 10 of Ireland’s favourite songs from 2011 in a public war.

The winner will be decided by a public text vote or by voting online at Meteor’s Facebook page and the winner will be announced at the big event on March 8th in The Olympia Theatre. So how were the top 10 list for this award derived you ask, surely you couldn’t ask the ten judges to listen to every song produced in Ireland individually and weigh them on their merits alongside judging the album list. Well they did, and alongside the judges opinion they used a combination of Irish airplay charts to produce a top 10 songs of 2011.

The winning song will win the Song of the Year trophy along with a prize fund.
