Dublin synth-pop singer-songwriter Marlae returns with a melancholy single Runaways. The song is built around a wide, 80s indebted synth pad and sequenced drums that underpin an impressive vocal  performance from Marlae.

Marlae paired her single with visuals from Australian filmmaker Paul Dodd who takes an unconventional approach to the video which begins in a square aspect ration that widens throughout to eventually fill the screen with lush natural scenery captured by Dodd.

“It’s a story about escape,” says Marlae of the track’s lyrical theme.

“It’s about taking someone you need with you, and saying, ‘Fuck this. Let’s make a break for it.”

Runaways is now available for streaming.
