Having amassed over 35million streams in the last few years Dublin rapper Malaki has quietly established himself as one of Ireland’s most successful hip hop acts in Ireland. Fresh from the release of ‘Long Face’, Malaki returns with romantic new single ‘Pasta’ which explores how the simplest of things help establish that you have feelings for somebody.
“Pasta is about the early beginnings of falling in love with someone new. In particular their characteristics and quirky mannerisms. The way they sing in the shower, Their smile, the way they light their cigarette off a taster. Sometimes it’s the little things about a person that make you think. ‘I might love her,’” explains Malaki of the track that came together in a quick-fire nature.
“Myself and Nick Mills (producer) wrote and recorded the track in the last hour of our first session together. It was one of those moments where everything fit into place so effortlessly. He began by playing the piano chords we hear throughout the track as I began humming the melody to the chorus. One hour later we had the track completed. All that was left was to add some additional instruments and a little bit of love and attention”
Malaki has Irish live dates in Belfast and Dublin this summer with a headline show in Dublin and a support slot for NI’s Anna’s Number in Belfast. Check out new single ‘Figure It Out’ below.
