A lost John Colrane album is set to be released after lying silent for 55 years.
‘Both Directions At Once’ was recorded by Coltrane in 1963 and has been described as”finding a new room in the Great Pyramid” by fellow jazz legend Sonny Rollins.
This Holy Grail of jazz was recorded by Coltrane’s classic quartet of McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones at Van Gelder Studios, New Jersey in March 1963 and features original, never-before-heard compositions, “Untitled Original 11383” and “Untitled Original 11386.”
The first week in March was a prolific one for Coltrane, not only did he record these lost recordings he also produced some of his most acclaimed work the John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman album the following day.
Both Directions at Once: The Lost Album will be released on June 29 on Impulse!
