Ultimate Ears might sounds like a cool name for a product line, and it is, but in this case it’s more than just a name. Ultimate Ears are a highly respect audio communications and noise protection company, with their products used at concerts all over the world. In 2008 they were acquired by Logitech and have slowly been adding their expertise to the Logitech product line. The Logitech UE 4000 is one of the products of this combination and showcases slick product design with some high quality audio.

The headset is had a slick design, available in blue, white and purple. There is a focus on iPhone with these headphones (as with a lot of products these days) with on-cord mic and control allowing you answer calls, change songs and volume without touching your iPod or iPhone. These features are not entirely lost for Macbook users either. We tested it and the volume control works on your Mac, but the mic doesn’t seem to follow suit. If these things are not important to you, this is still a lovely set of headphones for any other portable music player if you don’t subscribe to Apple’s product line.

The headphone ear cushions are made of memory foam covered in a soft as leather surface, making these headphones one of the most comfortable listens I’ve encountered. One simple and clever addition is the ability to remove the cable from the headphone at the ear section. While this might seem innocuous in itself, most of my headsets are broken on the cable at that exact point. The simple act of being able to disconnect the cable and wrap it up separately is in my eye bound to extend this products life. Another nice thing we noticed was that it took quite a lot of force from head movement to dislodge the headphones, we imagine someone on the go, jogging or cycling would comfortably go about their day, without the worry of the headphone dropping off. Sturdy, but still comfortable.

The sound itself is everything you would expect from Ultimate Ears. It’s clear and crisp while allowing it to play loudly if desired without any loss of quality, but maintaining a limit which you would imagine protects your ears from damage (given that’s what UE built their reputation on). In box there is an audio splitter allowing you to share your audio with a friend and a handy micro fibre carry case to safely pack away your headphones. Overall as headphones go, there are so many options, but this merge of Ultimate Ears audio knowledge and Logitech’s common sense approach to the product design gives us a high quality and comfortable option with bonus features for the Apple users out there.

These headphones will likely cost you around €99 from your local headphone vendor.
