Lany at The Academy, Dublin June 18, 2018

Having played The Grand Social in December 2017, LANY return to Dublin’s The Academy and it’s impossible to deny that tonight is anything other than a triumph. What the band have accomplished in the last year is impressive, whatever your perspective.

The dynamism on display is one of the most unique and enjoyable aspects of the show. LANY provide catchy sing-along choruses with the likes of Good Girls and Pink Skies as well as moving to a more subdued and touching vibe with Hericane and It Was Love sprinkled throughout, alternating between the two moods seamlessly.

LANY have truly mastered the theatrics of a show. From their visuals projected on stage, showing themed imagery or shots of the crowd, to frontman Paul Klein’s undisputed showmanship, it is an immersive experience.Perhaps the lack of participation from fellow members Les Priest and Jake Goss can, at times, be slightly unnerving. However, they more than make up for it in their musicianship.

All in all, tonight’s show has shown exactly what has brought the three-piece to a packed out main room in The Academy. LANY’s blend of alternative pop and rock influences culminates into an hour and a half of pure energy, vitality and originality.
