There was representation of every domestic accent as an influx packed the Luas line in what was a feat of some scale for four lads from South Dublin. The Coronas trajectory domestically has only been amplified since the news of their signing to Label Island Records. However, internationally they are still attempting to achieve the status that fans would argue they so massively deserve. Irish shows have been sparing, but tonight they exemplified in a live capacity and a tailored set list. For one of the most marmite-esque bands in recent years, it was a fervent display that left those of the less ardent assembly happy to invest their Saturday night in the boys company.

A vigorous show is always imminent when fireworks accompany your arrival. Front man O’Reilly took the helm for the night, presenting himself as a polished raconteur, donned in all black and a fine lead to his band mates. He continually exhorted the crowd for the night, concocting a wave of synergy from a 14,000 strong audience. Tonight, very little was left to chance with interlinking visuals serving as a backdrop and tight, timed and thick musicianship by O’Reilly,Egan,McPhilips, and Knox.

The emotions were always palpable for O’Reilly and while far from stoic he did his best to rein them in. The relay of lyrics was not confined to one radio savvy song and it was illustrative of how much this physically meant to him. He was left humbled by the support of ‘Won’t Leave You Alone’, ‘Get Loose’ and ‘One Love’. What has always worked in their favour is the pertinence of their lyrics and songs. Laments of love, loss and youth flows through their portfolio and makes them relatable.

Double encores are rare. ‘Tilt the house lights for a sec’ were the orders from O’Reilly as again he questioned the magnitude of support he had behind him tonight. ‘Heroes and Ghosts’ and ‘Mark my words’ stood out strong but ‘San Diego Song’ and Mic Christopher’s ‘HeyDay’ triumphed. ‘We can make our heyday last forever, And ain’t that what it’s all about, Oh living, in our own terrible way’. However much people continue to deride this band they can say that they’ve really had their Hey Day tonight.
