Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has left the group for the second time and has been replaced by Mike Campbell (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) and Neil Finn (Crowded House).
The news of Buckingham’s departure was broke by Variety
“Fleetwood Mac has always been about an amazing collection of songs that are performed with a unique blend of talents,” Mick Fleetwood said. “We jammed with Mike and Neil and the chemistry really worked and let the band realize that this is the right combination to go forward with in Fleetwood Mac style. We know we have something new, yet it’s got the unmistakable Mac sound.”
Of course line-up changes are nothing new to Fleetwood Mac who formed in 1967 and have since experienced several realignments. Buckingham joined in ’75, leading the group through its most successful period until his first departure in 1987. Buckingham was replaced Billy Burnette until his return in 1997.
The new line-up is due to hit the road later this year.
