An artistic encapsulation of the Limerick music scene, past and present, with the city’s unique landmarks as the omniscient backdrop is set to launch tomorrow.
Devised by Limerick musician (Randolf & the Crokers) and photographer Keith Kelly, ‘A River Runs Through It’ is a book that shines a light on the amazing talent that the Treaty City has to offer whilst also delving into the history of the Limerick music scene through the eyes of some of those artists responsible for nurturing that very scene.
The idea for the book came about following a successful exhibition at the Anna’s Anchor 10-year anniversary gig in The People’s Museum of Limerick earlier this year. The book features forty photographs of Limerick musicians holding their favourite Limerick albums, forming a trail of local albums from the starting point of The Cranberries ‘Everybody Else Is Doing it, So Why Can’t We?’. Each album picked leads on to the next artist and so on, with artists as diverse as Mick Hanly, Noel Hogan of The Cranberries, Emma Langford, Barry Murphy of Hermitage Green, and the recently passed Johnny Duhan of Granny’s Intentions, amongst many more.
All proceeds from the book (which was fully funded by local businesses and organisations) will go to two very worthy local causes; The Limerick Civic Trust and The Learning Hub Limerick. The Learning Hub offers a safe, welcoming and inspiring environment where young people can reach their true potential. The Limerick Civic Trust engages with a wide range of projects that celebrate and promote civic pride in Limerick.
‘A River Runs Through It’ will be launched on November 30th with a gig in the historic locale of The People’s Museum of Limerick, featuring some of Limerick’s finest musical talents – Anna’s Anchor, The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra, Steve Ryan (Windings/ Giveamanakick) and a very rare and special performance from Fin Chambers of Woodstar. It’s set to be a very special night indeed, one which has already sold out.
This limited-edition book will certainly make the perfect gift for music lovers this Christmas, and will be available to buy in O’Mahonys Booksellers, Steamboat Music, Downbeat Records and The People’s Museum of Limerick from December 1st.
