Cork by way of New York pop artist and 2021 Plec Pick Lenii makes an exciting return with her bold new single Straitjacket. Picking up where last year’s politically minded In All Fairness EP left off, Straitjacket looks set to be another success for the 23-year-old rising star.

The song’s electronic instrumental swaggers confidently beneath Lenii’s impressively layered vocals,  occasionally complimented by tasteful orchestra plucks. The track culminates with Lenii playfully matching an earworm synth hook – breaking up verses which celebrate Lenii’s unapologetic rejection of social norms.

“I used to have panic attacks where I’d laugh and cry at the same time, so my worst fear was being seen by other people and being dubbed ‘insane’,” says Lenii.“Writing Straitjacket was really therapeutic and empowering because a LOT of people deal with the same things, and it’s like saying – I’d rather be viewed as “out of my mind” than fold under the pressure of trying to fit in the way girls are expected to.”
