Fresh from selling out 2 nights in Dublin’s Lost Lane in under 20 minutes, Kilkenny’s 49th & Main are back with new single ‘Self Sabotage’ (via Counter Records) which showcases the evolution of the dance duo consisting of producer Ben O’Sullivan and vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Paddy King who were nominated for Best Breakthrough act at the Choice Music Prize 2023.

Following a hugely successful few year which saw the group making inroads in Europe, Australia and South America. The duo were forced to take a year off the road while Ben O’Sullivan underwent treatment for a rare blood disease aplastic anaemia. O’Sullivan used this time wisely, focusing on widening the band’s sound to include elements of drum ‘n’ bass and garage.

“It’s a familiar sound, which I think is a nice way of easing people back in, but they’ll also hear something a little different,” O’Sullivan explains of dark new single Self Sabotage. “if you want to look a bit deeper there’s something there, but if you don’t and just want to dance that’s fine too”.

“The theme behind it is someone in a club not knowing when to stop,” adds King.

49th & Main have recently been in the studio with underground dance favourites SHEE, Maya Randle and A Little Sound and the pair are eager to take the results on tour. “We’re going to take everything in our stride over the next few months,” said King. “The goal is to make a splash again: we’re back and not going anywhere.”

The duo will be reunited on stage for two sold out shows at Lost Lane in Dublin (19/20 April) with further shows in London, Glasgow and Manchester also just announced.
