Kildare quartet Blue Slate have previewed their upcoming debut EP ‘This is how I sleep at Night’ by sharing its title track which is reminiscent of shoegaze legends Ride thanks to its sprawling maelstrom of guitars and John Harney’s honeyed vocals.
“Lyrically, ‘This is how I sleep at Night’ is about the vulnerability and distaste of self image,” explains lead singer John Harney. “It taps into a dark period of my life and explains my experience with an eating disorder and the thought process when experiencing it. I think the scariest thing about body dysmorphia or an eating disorder is that it may not be as visible to the naked eye, until you’re deep in it.”
The EP which features the previously released singles Charlotte’s Song and Beaker is set for release on Wednesday, 12th February 2025 via Ireland’s Blowtorch Records. Blue Slate recently appeared at Whelan’s Ones to Watch and at the Windmill Brixton in London and will return to the prestigious UK venue on St. Patrick’s Day.The band have also performed in Paris at Rotterdam’s Left of the Dial festival and opened for rising UK act Big Special.
