Katie Kim & Seán Mac Erlaine come together for the powerful and melancholic single Empire One. The track is built around the interplay between Katie’s voice, a solitary upright piano and sparse but effective bursts of improvisation from Seán’s bass clarinet.

Empire One the first single from the upcoming Ergodos compilation ‘In The Echo: Field Recordings from Earlsfort Terrace’. The 8-track project has been curated and produced by drummer Ross Turner in Dublin’s historic National Concert Hall and sees a wide cast of collaborators pairing off to lend their talents to the record including Lisa O’Neill & Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Paul Noonan & Roger Moffatt, Eileen Carpio & Sean Carpio.

“It really set the tone for the rest of the album,” says the album’s curator/producer Ross Turner of the single.

“It captures the unique sound of the building beautifully and the sparse arrangement allowed for the space to become a part of the recording.

“Katie sang at an upright piano that was located in a room at one end of the second-floor corridor. We kept the door open to enhance the blend of sounds, with Seán situated at the top of a stairwell at the other end of the corridor, maximizing the dynamic between the two performers and the building.”

The single is now available for streaming and purchase via Bandcamp
