Supergroups have a tricky lineage, for every Travelling Wilburys there’s a hundred Crooked Vultures. It doesn’t matter how good the individual members are if there’s no chemistry, there’s no future to the project.
Hoping to be more Wilburys than Vultures are Boygenius the new project from Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus. Not exactly household names (yet), but each is forging a more than respectable solo career – Dacus appearing at this weekend’s Electric Picnic with her critically acclaimed second album ‘Historian’ (2018) in tow.
The trio recorded the Boygenius project in Los Angeles this summer and have previewed three of their forthcoming EP’s six tracks Stay Down, Me And My Dog and Bite The Hand, which have already received over one million streams collectively on Spotify since there release last week.
Dacus is not the only member of Boygenius who will be gracing our shores any time soon. Julien Baker will play Vicar Street later this month (details below) while Bridgers is currently on tour in the States including dates supporting The National.
Boygenius meanwhile, have a string of US dates throughout October. Any plans for a European tour are under wraps as yet.
