Bangladeshi-Irish R’N’B act Joy Crookes is coming to Dublin for a show in The Sound House next month. The Londoner has been making waves with her soulful ‘Perception’ EP, which has resulted in the 19-year-old being compared to the likes of Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill.

For Joy Crookes latest trick she has created a melody of two of the highlights of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘DAMN’. Check out Joy’s blend of the tracks YAH. & Element below.

“I was sat in my living room with my best friend and I was showing her this new synth keyboard thing I’d bought in Brighton that weekend. I just sat there and sang her famous songs while messing around on these keys – when we got to Kendrick she turned around and was like “shit, that was good – do that again”.

“Once I’d actually worked out the cover and chords, I realised how much the songs I merged related to my own life. Kendrick is probably one of my favourite lyricists of this generation, even the first line: “I’ve got so many theories and suspicions, I’m diagnosed with real people conditions, today is the day I follow my intuition, keep the family close, get money and fuck bitches” and the last chorus line “they won’t take me out my element” is LITERALLY how I try and live my life”.

Joy Crookes at The Sound House 28th October 2019. Tickets €15.00 inclusive of booking fee – on sale Thursday at 10AM.
