It’s Friday which can mean only one thing – new tunes – here is is this week’s round-up of the best new ones from Ireland – Check out the new album from Bicep which may very well chart at number one in the UK this weekend and the new album from Apella – 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this album are going directly to The Marie Keating Foundation. There’s also a new EP of bonus material from the one and only Alex Gough.
This week’s cover star is Kynsy who we tipped for big things in last year’s Plec Picks series – check out this year’s list here – Kynsy released her debut EP ‘Things That Don’t Exist’ yesterday which more than justified the hype surrounding her which has saw her heading up ones to watch lists for 2021 for the likes of NME and Dork.
MayKay makes a welcome return with her first release since Le Galaxie folded ‘No Forever’ sees her team up with Elaine Mai for a radio ready bop. Somebody’s Child preview their upcoming EP with ‘The Lover’ Irish Women in Harmony alumni and Laoise returns with a big bowl of ‘Gravy’, while Stephanie Rainey proclaims she’s ‘No Cowboy’ and Wyvern Lingo preview their new album ‘Awake You Lie’ with ‘Only Love One Light’.
There’s hip hop from Maverick Sabre, 7th Obi, Sea High, WetPatch, Durty Mick, Johnny Climax and a collaboration from Breezy Ideygoke and New Junior, while Chósta, Moon Paw Print and Captain A provide some instrumental bliss.
If guitars are more your bag there are new tunes from Badhands, Nylophone, Kamino Royale and Mute The TV and folk from Ye Vagabonds, Stevie Darragh, SomeRiseSomeFall and Rónán Ó Snodaigh feat Myles O Reilly aka Indistinct Chatter.
