This week’s round-up of the best new Irish music sees the first batch of notable Irish album arrive for 2025. Record breaking Irish rapper Travy who probably has the right to feel most aggrieved at this week’s Choice Music Prize shortlist following the omission of his collaborative album ‘Doghouse’ with Elzzz – the first Irish rap album to go to No.1 in Ireland. The rapper has returned with his first solo album proper ‘Spooky’ this week and will hope to repeat the feet of topping the charts whilst making further inroads into the UK Grime Scene.
Meanwhile, everybody’s favourite bongo player (sorry Matthew McConaughey) Skinner has also delivered his debut album ‘New Wave Vaudeville’ one for fans of T^he B52’s, Talking Heads, Gilla Band and sexy sax solos. Irish folk star Brigid Mae Power has delivered ‘Songs For You’ a covers album dedicated to her late father, featuring songs they both loved and shared together.
Following his breakthrough Belfast’s Jordan Adetunji returns with ‘Too Many Women feat. kwn’ which will no doubt be as successful as recent single ‘Options’, It’s also great to see Joy Crookes return with her first single since 2021 ‘Pass The Salt’ featuring rap superstar Vince Staples.
Cork sextet Pebbledash preview their upcoming debut EP with ‘Slowly Slowly’, while industrial rockers Tayne build towards their debut album ‘Love’ with their new single Scars’. Galway’s James Dillon continues to impress with his latest off-kilter dance creation ‘Häxan’. Lxverboy and sagelke mix dance and hip hop on ‘Infinity’, while Spooklet unleashes her next chapter with the glitchy ‘Silence Froid’.
Irish music superhero Adrian Crowley previews his new album ‘Measure of Joy’ (Feb 7th) with the haunting ‘Brother Was A Runaway’, while Sophie Jamieson who will be representing Ireland at ESNS later this month has previewed her long-awaited new album ‘I still want to share’ (Jan 17th) with ‘Vista’.
Elsewhere, Revelino’s Bren Berry continues his solo career with ‘Knives ( Heavy Metal Rain)’ while midlands artist Emily Davies introduces us to her world with her debut single St. Giles. and folk legends Dervish connect with ’80s US folk legends Indigo Girls on ‘Passage West’.
