On this week’s round-up of the best new Irish music it’s a big week for albums as Irish acts look to get their releases out in time to impress this year’s Choice Music Prize judges. Sack make a welcome return with their first album in over twenty years ‘Wake Up People!’, while Shiv details ‘the defiance of a sadgirl’ on her debut album.

Houseplants deliver their second collection of tracks ‘Half Known Things’ while Maverick Sabre encourages us to ‘Burn The Right Things Down’. Fiach Moriarty pays tribute to Dublin’s fair city on ‘Liberties’ and The Black Pope sends up some ‘White Smoke’ on his debut.

Limerick’s Proper Micro NV aka Rory Hall introduces us to the world of  ‘Microsaurus’, while those rock n’ roll Gorillas, Silverbacks proclaim it’s ‘Easy Being A Winner’ with their best album to date. There’s also a strong line-up of EP’s this week with new releases from A Lazarus Soul, Ferals, Silverglass and Jæd.

This week’s coverstar Morgana (of Saint Sister fame) delivers her debut solo single ‘I’ll Cry When I’m Dead’ while the newly crowned solo queen of Irish streaming Jazzy hooks up with superstar  Kilimanjaro for ‘No Bad Vibes’. There’s plenty of other big collabs this week too. Joy Crookes joins everybody’s favourite DJ The Blessed Madonna for ‘Strength (R U Ready)’, while fresh from the international success of ‘Kehlani’ which became Northern Ireland’s biggest song of 2024 Jordan Adetunji returns with ‘Options’ feat. Lil Baby.

Perhaps Ireland’s most collaborative artist of 2024 Soak is back this time hooking up with Australian artist Gordi for the slowburn ‘Lunch at Dune’, Dublin producer Declan Gaffney aka St Francis Hotel connects with Anglo Irish artist Wildes for ‘Kopfkino’, while fresh from the release of her new single ‘Projections’, Maria Somerville mes a special appearance on ‘Bizarre’ from RIP Swirls new album ‘Perfectly Blue’. Meanwhile Problem Patterns and Beauty Sleep combine on the surprisingly poppy ‘Bigger Shoutier’.

Fresh from signing a global publishing deal Dublin crooner Shobsy pops the ‘Champagne’ while compatriots Soda Blonde introduce their third chapter with ‘Bully’, while 49th & Main give Sunday Morning Coming Down a 2024 makeover on ‘So Low’, while Qbanaa faces up to ‘Demons in The Liffey’ on the heartfelt preview from their upcoming EP.

Fake Saint’s debut single ‘I Don’t Wanna Be Me’ shot straight to No.1 on iTunes upon its release yesterday and may well be worth keeping an eye on going forwards. And if that wasn’t enough candy for your ears there’s also new music from Kingfishr, Elzzz, Vernon Jane, Zeztra, Esiray, Lucy Gaffney, the king of funky good times Zaska and more besides.
