It’s Friday again, which can mean only one thing, lashings of new Irish music. This week’s round-up sees Northern Ireland’s finest, Ash remaster their 2001 classic ‘Free All Angels’, meanwhile, Local Boy has taken time out from offering out straightners outside Tallaght Stadium to deliver his debut album ‘Local Boy Climbs The Ladder’ and one of Ireland’s finest emerging songwriters Sammy Copley delivers their latest EP ‘Little Box’, while Susan O’Neill delivers her debut EP ‘Now You See It’ and Kynsy delivers her long=-awaited new EP ‘Something To Do Whit Love’
It’s a nice week for remixes and reimaginings, James Vincent McMorrow has transformed Maria Kelly’s Eight Hours into a sleek synth beast, while the Theodora Byrne Ensemble have helped to repaint Ailbhe Reddy’s Shoulder Blades in choral glory. There’s also lovely collaborations from John Blek and Cathy Davey and Elaine Mai and Murli respectively.
Cover-star Aonair has delivered his best song to date, the War On Drugs-esque ‘There Ain’t No Easy Way Out’, while Skinner introduces the anti-hero we’ve all been waiting for ‘Captain Trainwreck’ and Gilla Band continue to prove that rose by any other name is just as sweet with their latest single ‘Post Ryan’ and Telefis continue to insure that the fine legacy of Cathal Coughlan gets the kind of attention it deserves with the release of the excellent ‘The Carthaginians’.
All this, plus new music from the like of Dylan Flynn, Lavengro, Morning Midnight, Bradley Marshall, Slaney, Simon Masterson, JYellowL, Arn., Rebekah Fitch, Jordan Nocturne, Christian Cohle, 7th Obi, Video Blue, Meljoann, Arbutus, Paper Tigers, Coachdo, Ways of Seeing, Lilla VArgen, Joshua Burnside, Farah Elle and September Sun the Carpenters-esque debut solo effort from Krea aka Wyvern Lingo’s Karen Crowley.
