Guitarist Dave Browne, a resident musician of The Temple Bar pub, Dublin will be attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the longest guitar playing session in the world. Us Irish love a good session so it’s pretty amazing that we don’t already hold this record.

The attempt will consist of trying to play guitar for over 101 consecutive hours. The event will take place on Sunday 12th June at 4pm and at 101 hours being the goal should finish sometime on Thursday around 9pm. Over the course of the event he will be joined by friends and fellow musicians on stage who have been invited to join in and help him throughout his record breaking attempt.

One of the biggest challenges Dave will face is playing guitar four days straight with NO SLEEP. To be honest after 12 hours awake I start to long for the scratcher, I can’t imagine how tired he will be for 8 times that.

Speaking about the event Dave said

“I am incredibly excited to be taking on this challenge. It’s been something that I have been planning to do for years now and I feel as though I am finally ready for it! Playing guitar comes really naturally to me but I have to say, staying awake is going to be the biggest challenge.

The longest guitar session I have played to date is 3 days so this is going to require a serious amount of mental endurance to get through over 100 hours with no sleep. I am approaching it like a marathon for my mind and I am already beginning to train for it. For me, having everyone around keeping me motivated and alert will really help so having the support on stage is really important,”
