Having previously teamed up with Sprints’ Karla Chubb for the excellent ‘L’Aliment’, Belfast native, Mount Palomar is back with another bold collaboration, ‘Pass the Parcel’ sees the pioneering NI artist teaming up with up-and-coming NI act Makeshift Art Bar to create a track thatdraws on the early electro sounds of Detroit with subtle, abstract Irish post punk elements.
“The name “Makeshift Art Bar” had been mentioned to me several times as potential collaborators, but with other projects underway, I hadn’t given it too much thought. That changed when I caught their set at Borderline Festival, Dublin.
The raw, visceral nature of their performance, combined with the unhinged youthful angst that they displayed, immediately caught my attention and I had a sense that I could do something quite unique with them. I reached out to lead singer, Joseph, with an idea for a melodic, Detroit electro-inspired track, something outside of their usual sound and he was keen to work together, to experiment and try something different. Between the track and the accompanying music video, there proved to be a synergy that just seemed to work with ease.”
‘Pass the Parcel’ is the second single from Palomar’s upcoming Feeding Frenzy EP, his debut for UK tastemaker label Nice Swan Records. Alongside the new single Palomar has announced that he will DJ and curate ‘Palomar Presents’ a monthly residency in XOYO in London starting in September with Rhyw, LWS and NIKKI O.
