The Tall Ships Festival brought the majority of its musical schedule to a close Saturday night after a long days rocking. A big crowd turned up for Delorentos, who we only caught the end of, but they seemed to go down a treat.

We were then treated to a trio of quality Irish acts back to back as The Frank and Walters took control of Georges Dock with the tracks the made them so popular over the years. Therapy? turned up dressed as sharp as their set would be. They blew away Georges Dock with a powerful, rip roaring set.

Finally we took in a set from the legendary gentlemen of The Undertones. They drew a large crowd with people stuck outside as the gates were closed up. McCloone is still every bit the frontman some bands wish they had. He strutted his stuff, engaging the crowd and belting out the hits. The band were so very tight and did justice to their back catalog for a fan who has long listened to their music but never caught the live show.

The Tall Ships Festival concluded with a second airing of Teenage Kicks which pleased the crowd who erupted into frenzied dancing. A perfect way to close out a festival which brought a vibrancy and beauty to Dublin’s City Centre. From the amazing ships (allowing us to check-in on Facebook saying “I’m on a Boat”) to the carnivals and food stands of multiple varieties, to floating cinema’s and extreme sports, Dublin was awash with fun and smiles as families descended upon the centre day after day.

More of this again next year would be more than OK with us.
