HousePlants, have shared the third glimpse into the world of their forthcoming second album. ‘Someone Throws a Brick’ as with previous singles No Pushover’ and ‘Every Flower is a Field’ finds Paul Noonan & Daithi in fine fettle sonically if not in the best head-space.

‘Someone Throws a Brick’ finds Noonan in a philosophical mood, pondering who if we are really in control of our own destiny or if we really have no control in what happens to us at all. Are we all just living in a bad episode of Hammer House of Horror?

“It seems that from sneering at Elon Musk talking with his bros in the bath about The Simulation Argument (see HousePlants – No Pushover), I too became interested in the idea that we are living a simulation, and am now a wannabe bro in Elon’s bath. I’m sure the Germans have a word for this…

What if, many millennia hence, there are lifeforms controlling what we are now experiencing as life, in some sort of evolution of a computer simulation? Pushing us around, in a Petri dish? That we really have no agency – that the joys and devastation, cruelty and triumphs are at the whims of and for the entertainment of these beings?

My head hurts a little when I try to understand how this might be the case, or even that we’re living a simulation within a simulation, but sometimes I can touch it. Ultimately I don’t think it’s the case, but a fun one to think on… And as always, is window-dressing for making people move. We hope it does so.”
