The Hot SprocketsHailing from the ‘delta blues mecca of south Dublin’ The Hot Sprockets have come a very long way since forming almost ten years ago. Praised for their mind blowing live shows and outrageously funny music videos this five piece have built up a loyal fan base and rocked out at venues and festivals up and down the country.

”The lads got me a guitar for my birthday so I started playing, but we didn’t really do anything for awhile. We were saying we were in a band for ages before we jammed, we were more of a guitar gang, then we properly formed in Franky’s shed” laughs Tim Cullen. Such a humble beginnings for a band who are about to release their eagerly anticipated second album ‘Brother Nature’ with a not to be missed show at The Button Factory. ”We got three songs down at our first jam and we played our first gig a few days later” adds Franky Kelly.

If you have been lucky enough to catch a Sprocket gig you will know how diverse their back catalogue is, songs like Soul Brother will make you make you rock out, while Homeslice will pluck at your heart strings. Therefore it is no surprise that the whole band put their mark on each song ”Me, Frank or Tim would have a song and bring it to the band, we find a bass and drum groove and then sometimes the structure might change a bit and then we start making suggestions about what goes where and some lyrics, basically until we’re kind of happy” says Wayne Soper.

The bands first album Honeyskippin’ was released in 2011 and the five piece say they have grown a lot as a band since then ”The longer your in a band you start naturally gelling together, you start becoming the same musically, the more you jam and experiment together”

The band’s videos have also garnered them a lot of attention ”We’ve upped the game so much now we just have to do awesome videos, we’re really proud of them and they’re hard work, but they’re worth it. It’s a great way to get your tunes out there, people like it they share at and check out your other videos” says Wayne

The Hot Sprockets are very vocal about how much time and effort has gone into getting this album to the level it is at ”We’ve been working on Brother Nature for ages, all the songs have been written over a long period of time and then we recorded it with Gavin Glass in Orphan Studios, which was great, he’s amazing”  says Tim. Like the rest of The Hot Sprockets offerings Brother Nature is being released on their own label Cherrypopper Records ”Its our own label and it’s a proper company now, we’d love to one day be able to release other bands on it, that would be sweet”

”We can’t wait for the gig in The Button Factory, we’ll have two backing singers, Gavin Glass playing keys, we’ll have flute, congas, fiddle, it’s going be sweet, it’ll be a big show for us” . After the launch the Sprockets will be playing some not to be missed shows around the country and of course some of Ireland’s best festivals.

So what do The Hot Sprockets want to achieve with Brother Nature? ”Well in our eyes we’ve already made it, we’ve done things we never thought we would and come further than we ever thought, we love hat we do and we are just going to keep doing it”
