Hard to believe it’s now over a year since Hazy Haze released his debut album, ‘Is Mise’.  Since then he’s put out the seven-track ‘Pignorant’ EP with producer 40hurtz, and this latest track, Pepé Le Pew, sees him team up with artist/producer Danny Lanham.

For this track, Hazey said he wanted to bring a new approach to writing and recording music, which led to Lanham coming on board to help produce the single, utilising live instruments to solidify the rapper’s stylistical change.

Mr Toupee (Danny) and I focused solely on vibes this time round,” says Hazey. “Both of us have love for earlier music styles and artists, so we joined forces to make a mood influenced by 70s/80s soul. I found way more freedom working with a musician with live instruments and I felt it’s what I was missing this whole time. Them vibes are like Tom Waits with a sprinkle of Young Thug!”

Danny adds, “I think Haze and I are quite similar in terms of work flow and Hazey wanted to work with live instruments, which is my forté. We could write all day long so getting together to write something for the FMC grant with a new vibe was so fun, this track shows that we found the pocket and a vibe for future releases. Personally, I was very influenced by D’Angelo and Tom Waits on this one, and specifically the late great MF DOOM album ‘MM…FOOD’.

Pepé Le Pew is available to buy today on Bandcamp here, and available on all streaming platforms from 12 March.  Remember, Bandcamp is waiving its fees today, Friday 5 March, so 100% of the money from this sale will go directly to Hazey. Get in there!
