The 46th annual Guinness Cork Jazz Festival takes place later this month (24-28th Oct) and expects to draw over 100,000 people to 80 venues across Cork. As well as the usual festivities, this year the festival has partnered with The Record Hub to celebrate 85 years of the iconic jazz label, Blue Note Records, with an immersive exhibition titled at the historic St. Peter’s Cork for the duration of the festival.
This first-of-its-kind collaboration showcases the profound impact Blue Note has had on the worlds of both jazz and visual art. Visitors can enjoy a free walk-through display of Blue Note’s legendary album covers and discover the label’s deep roots in shaping modern jazz. This visual journey is complemented by the launch of Blue Note’s first-ever pop-up store in Ireland, in association with The Record Hub offering an array of exclusive merchandise and memorabilia.
“The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is always a brilliant event and we at Blue Note are thrilled to be integrally involved this year. The exhibition of our artwork and The Record Hub’s exclusive pop-up offerings will enable Cork to celebrate our 85th anniversary with panache!” said Don Was, President of Blue Note Records.
“We are really excited to welcome “85 Years of Blue Note” to St Peter’s for the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival.” adds curator and well-known Cork DJ, Stevie G. “Blue Note is an iconic label that continues to reflect the many shapes of jazz and its heritage is unparalleled. This exhibition is going to be a visual feast for music, art and design lovers of all ages, and it’s an exciting collaboration with Blue Note, the Jazz Festival, the Record Hub and our own We Got the Jazz project, which has previously used the St Peter’s space for Evolution and the Chuck Stewart Exhibition. It’s jazz time in Cork and Blue Note are on the way!”
