If you had a chance to checkout our completely brilliant radio show ‘The Fourcast’ on 2XM on Tuesday (and every Tuesday at 11am), our motley crew expertly dissected the rolling stones top ten debut album list with an insight and wit not seen since the days of Wilde and Yeats. If you missed it, the show is repeated this Saturday (and every Saturday) at 8pm. You can also download the discussions sans music from iTunes, just search for Goldenplec.

Through further discussion and analysis we constructed our own list of debut albums that collectively blew our minds. Heres a top 5 selection of what they discussed on the show. You can listen to the show on the player just below where we also discussed Youtube and acts who have or haven’t made careers from Youtube and what youtube did for music internationally.

And as always all the news, upcoming gigs and what we’ve been checking out.

Bjork – Debut
Suggested by David Quinn this is Bjorks debut album by the fact that her first set of work which was self titled was considered ‘Juvenilia’ as she was only 12 at the time so apparently that doesn’t count. So this was one of Quinners favourite albums and when it got the bump to being a debut album he jumped on suggesting it.

The Answer – Rise
Another Suggestion from Dave Quinn but strongly backed by Aidan Cuffe and Simon Gallagher the Northern Irish stars really know how to piece together a rock album, if you haven’t checked them out. It’s time.

Ryan Adams – Heartbreaker
Another popular suggestion this time from Simon Gallagher as an amazing set of emotional songs by a supremely talented artist, just don’t listen to it with a broken heart, it won’t help.

The Darkness – Permission to Land

Put forth by Aidan Cuffe following his ridiculous suggestion of 5ive’s debut album he saved a little face with The Darkness’s stonking glam rock album ‘Permission To Land’, He believes there isn’t a bad track on it, Quinner agrees but Simon feels it ages terribly.

Interpol – Turn off the bright lights

Finally put forth by Colm Hewson our producer Interpol – Turn Off The Bright Lights struck a chord with most of the group with only Cuffe not a huge fan of the band.

GP Recommends the following debuts that we consider good enough to give a spin per my esteemed colleagues discussion on the Fourcast, in addition to the above stonkers however this being GP I’ve gone rogue (what’s new) and picked what I (Kev Meagher) consider to be the best debut albums of all time, and no, the Vengaboys seminal debut album ‘Party Time’ did not make the cut. In no particular order, my top five.

The Strokes – Is This it?

The Jimi Hendrix Experience –  Are You Experienced?

The Sex Pistols – Never Mind the Bollocks

Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin

Weezer – Weezer (The Blue Album)
