This week’s gig of the week comes from Villagers who play the button factory this Sunday with tickets costing a mere €15. The new album “Becoming a Jackal” has been named in the top 20 albums for the summer by NME. Only recently appeared on Jools Holland too where he got rave reviews. The album has been in the shops since last friday and i think that not only will this gig be pretty special, i think it will be a gig people are talking about for a long time after. This is an especially poignant gig for Conor given its only just under 3 weeks since his sister passed away. I for one would love to see a sold out venue in support of this rising star.

A close second to the Villager gig is Hurts playing their first ever Irish gig in Whelan’s this Thursday, there is a lot of talk about this one, hopefully Hurts can live up to the billing people are giving it, we have faith and reckon if your free Thursday it’s worth casting an eye over proceedings.

Other gigs of note see Lost Prophets play The academy, Code, Cast of Cheers and Sounds of System breakdown play The Sugar Club and Dum Dum Girls play Whelan’s all on Tuesday.

Faithless play The Olympia, Sweet Jane are playing Antics (rumoured to be one of the last ever antic’s?????), Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reid plays The Academy and The O2 hosts Mark Knopfler.

Pilotlight will be in Tower Record on Thursday at 6pm, Brian Jonestown Massacre play The Academy and Noise Control, Juno Falls and more play The button factory and Wolf Parade play Vicar Street

Friday has Delorentos @ Tower Records, Saturday has Grand Pocket Orchestra @ Twisted Pepper and Sunday see’s Steve Harley and the cockney rebels and gig of the week Villagers.
