Welcome to what is a new feature here on Goldenplec. Every Monday we will give you our take on what is the best gig of the next seven days to spend your hard earned pennies on. And what better way to introduce something new than to use it to recommend an event celebrating something old.

On January 15th, Road Records announced that due to worsening financial conditions they would no longer be able to stay open and would be closing their doors in the coming weeks. This will see the Irish music scene lose one of the shining lights of the independent sector. Places like Road give young Irish acts to get their music out there, and a place to sell their tickets for their Eamonn Doran gig. For the music lover, it was a place to pick up music that only blgspace knows off, aswell as Dublins latest It band’s EP.

So on Saturday March 14th the best of  independent Irish music will gather in Andrews Lane with a benefit gig to celebrate everything Road gave to Irish music. Jape, The Jimmy Cake, Si Schroeder, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Adrian Crowley, The Large Corporation (Dudley Corporation Vs Large Mound) and Road Record DJs will be playing, and i’m sure there will be a couple of surprises on the night.

Tickets are €20 and available from Road Records, Tower Records, www.tickets.ie & WAV box office 1890 200 078

In the meantime, don’t be afraid to drop into Road and pick up a EP or two, while you still can.
