Music wise there’s plenty going on this week. What with Arthur’s Day taking over practically every pub in the country on Thursday with free gigs from top class acts. It isn’t Gig of the Week as not knowing where some of our favorite acts are going to be sure does add to the excitment but makes it difficult to judge where best to pull up a bar stool; but sure we’ll succumb to the power of advertising and paint the town black wherever we end up.
This week’s Gig Of The Week see’s the return of twin sisters Ellie and Louise Macnamara, better known as indie folk duo Heathers. The girls are playing The Academy on Saturday 29th September, following the release of their latest album Kingdom. Tickets are €14.50 and still available, or if you’re feeling lucky we have a competition for tickets here (closes Wednesday).
Sticking on the sibling theme, Dublin folk singing brothers Cry Monster Cry are playing The Sugar Club on Friday night. Tickets are €11 and still available. We also have a Cry Monster Cry competition with winner being picked Wednesday.
Friday night sees some of Team GP’s favorite new act, wee Jake Bugg, play to a sold out crowd in The Black Box in Belfast. Don’t worry if you didn’t get a ticket because he’s also playing Arthur’s Day and has just announced a date in The Academy for February.
Also a mention for TV star Maria Doyle Kennedy who has a lovely album called ‘SING’ and it’s being launched in Vicar Street on Saturday. Tickets for that are just €23 and if you’re around do drop in.
